2024 Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour
The Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC) has the opportunity to enter a RORC team in the Nastro Rosa events this year. The Nastro Rosa events are sailed double-handed in Figaro 3 yachts with offshore courses around the Italian coast.
RORC are looking for experienced sailors who want to create double-handed teams to compete in the series. Below are the events RORC are entering and a link to an online RORC application form. Please complete and submit the form by the 3rd of May. We hope to select the teams in early May.
Uniquely, there is no yacht charter fee for participating in Nastro Rosa regattas, but sailors must cover travel, accommodation, and subsistence as required.
Il Giro – 15th June – 21st July
This is an eight-leg race around the Italian coast. Starting in Genoa and finishing in Venice, we are looking for four double-handed teams to make up the squad, with each team sailing a couple of legs. The exact date of each leg has not yet been released, but we are expecting each team to be involved for 8-9 days, including the yacht handover. There are no stipulations on age or gender, but sailors must be experienced offshore racers and competent to be offshore for 48 hours.
Double-Handed Mixed Offshore Europeans – 29th September – 6th October
This is a mixed-gender event but without an age requirement. It is for experienced double-handed sailors who have ideally raced together. Previous versions of this regatta included two offshore races of 36-48 hours each. The format for this year has not been announced, but we are anticipating a similar format.
Il Veloce – 2nd November – 17th November
This is the principal event in the calendar, a 1492 nm course non-stop around the Italian coast. Starting in Venice and finishing in Genoa, it promises to be a challenging and exciting race. The course record is 8 days, 27 minutes and 23 seconds; a Euro 50,000 price pot is available if the winning boat beats the record. There are no stipulations on age or gender, but we will be looking for very experienced offshore sailors who have sailed double-handed and can demonstrate participation in 600 nm+ events.
