The Prizegiving Dinner for the Conway Media Round Ireland Yacht Race took place on Saturday 30th October at the Parkview Hotel in Newtown Mount Kennedy, Co. Wicklow.
Crews from the UK and the Netherlands made the trip over to Ireland for the dinner. RORC boats Tonnerre de Breskens 3, Psipsina and Visit Malta Puma collected the Kinsale Y.C. Trophy for the first team in the race with a combined time of 121 hours, 37 minutes and 24 seconds.
The boats also fared well in class and overall results: John Loden's HOD 35, Psipsina, won the Two-Handed Class as well as a second in IRC Two. John was effusive in his praise of his co-skipper Paddy Cronin who also won the Two-Handed Class in 2008.
Sailing Logic's Visit Malta Puma, skippered by Philippe Falle, came first in IRC One and third in IRC Overall. The boat was well represented at the prizegiving and Philippe's mother, Jane, was full of praise for the hospitality of the Wicklow Sailing Club, who run the event.
The highlight of the evening was RORC Yacht of the Year, Piet Vroon's Tonnerre de Breskens 3. As well as being part of the RORC team they won IRC Zero and IRC Overall as well as the Line Honours Trophy. Piet and some of his crew travelled over from the Netherlands for the evening and were very well received by all at the dinner.
Congratulations were passed on to Dennis Noonan and his team from Wicklow Sailing Club for a great race and prizegiving dinner. |
