Management changes at the Royal Ocean Racing Club Print E-mail
The Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC) today announced the management changes with the appointment of Eddie Warden Owen as its Chief Executive Officer from late February and Ian Loffhagen as the new Racing Manager. Eddie will be responsible for the overall management of all aspects of the Club’s core activities. Ian Loffhagen and Mike Urwin, the Technical Director in charge of the Rating Office, will report to the Chief Executive.

Eddie joins RORC after having an impressive sailing career spanning over 25 years in the international sailing arena. He has raced in most of the classic offshore regattas around the world, Admirals Cup, Southern Cross Cup, Fastnet Race and Middle Sea Race. An accomplished match racer, he has been involved in 7 Americas Cups, the most recent as Coach to the Spanish team, Desafio Espanol 2007, in Valencia.

Commenting on his appointment, Eddie said:-
“I am very excited about this new direction in my sailing career and the prospect of working with the RORC team. RORC is recognised as the premier organiser of racing for offshore yachts, including the internationally famous Rolex Fastnet Race and Rolex Commodores’ Cup. I aim to continue to raise the profile of these exciting events and to add my expertise to increase the popularity of RORC races and explore opportunities to benefit the Club and its members.”

Ian Loffhagen has been deputy Racing Manager at the RORC for 7 years and takes over from Janet Grosvenor as Racing Manager from 1 March 2008. The Club will recruit a new deputy Racing Manager to support Ian. Janet will continue to work for the RORC with responsibility for management of events such as the Red Funnel Easter Challenge, the IRC Championships and the Rolex Commodores’ Cup.

RORC Commodore David Aisher commenting on the changes said:-
“The appointment of Eddie Warden Owen as Chief Executive and the promotion of Ian Loffhagen to Racing Manager are positive steps in ensuring a strong and professional management team. Eddie’s depth of knowledge of sailing and his international connections will bring an exciting new dimension to the club. The Flag Officers and I are looking forward to working with Eddie and jointly developing the many facets of the Club bringing benefits to both members and non members alike who sail with our fleet as well as services to the sailing community at large around the world through the Rating Office.”
