Date: Sunday 12th August
Course: Cowes – around Britain and Ireland - Cowes
Distance (nm): 1805
This quadrennial race is probably the most challenging of all RORC offshores. The equivalent of three Fastnets, it includes ocean sailing up the Irish coast, rounding the Shetlands at a higherlatitude than Cape Horn, then the shoals, oil rigs and maritime traffic hazards in the NorthSea, the world’s busiest shipping lanes at Dover before the final beat back to Cowes. In 2014 conditions demanded a change to an anti-clockwise lap, resulting in several broken records. For 2018, the race is in the Class40 calendar and several IMOCA 60s are expected.
