Stephen Park has led Skandia Team GBR – Great Britain’s Sailing Team in the Olympic and Paralympic Classes – to unrivalled success on the world stage since 2001.
Great Britain is the most successful Olympic classes sailing nation, and sailing has been one of the nation’s consistently high performing sports at the past three Olympic Games. Stephen, known as ‘Sparky’ amongst those in the sailing fraternity, presided over impressive performances from Team GB’s sailors at the Athens 2004 Games, where they won five medals, before surpassing that on the waters of Qingdao at the Beijing Games four years later where Britain’s sailors claimed six medals, including four Golds, and achieved their best Olympic medal haul in 100 years.
With London 2012 fast approaching, Stephen, the sailors and the support team, are preparing for the challenges of a home Olympic and Paralympic Games on the waters of Weymouth and Portland, where Great Britain will strive to retain its status as the world’s best Olympic sailing nation against increasingly fierce international competition, and our Paralympic sailors will look to make their mark on the Paralympic medal table for the first time since sailing became a full Paralympic sport in 2000.
Find out how Stephen and the team are preparing to meet those challenges and deliver the goods in what will be a memorable year for British sailing and British sport.
