The Royal Ocean Racing Club is sad to share the news that Willie Sanderson, died peacefully at home, 31st May 2025, after a long illness. Much loved husband to Margot, stepfather to Alistair, and beloved Grandfather to Jamie, and Libby.
Willie’s love of sailing goes back a long way - racing in the heyday of half tonners and three quarter tonners in the 70s, 80s. He also raced with previous Commodore and Admiral of the RORC, Sir Maurice Laing on Loujaine and Bathsheba. A well know and respected figure in Cowes he was a recognised race officer for many of the Cowes clubs including the Royal Corinthian YC, Island Sailing Club and joined Alan Green’s RORC race team. Willie continued to help the RORC as a volunteer race officer on the RYS platform until quite recently. Giving back to the sport he had enjoyed so much.
