Joining the RORC

To join the RORC is to become part of a long established, unique and exclusive Club dedicated to encouraging long distance, and other forms of yacht racing and activity. RORC members will join a large network of sailors and benefit from two exemplary Clubhouses, located in the hub of central London and in the sailing capital of the UK, Cowes.

Member Types

You can join the RORC in either of two categories:

Ocean Racing Membership
Candidates for Ocean Racing Membership must have completed no less than 500 miles racing offshore including at least two nights at sea, and if possible at least one RORC race, within the last five years.
Corinthian Membership
Candidates for Corinthian membership should have a background of sailing experience and support the objectives of the Club.

Letters of Introduction to other Yacht Clubs

Introductory letters for members visiting Yacht Clubs around the World can be sent on request.

 

Join Today

To join the RORC you need to:

1. Be proposed and seconded by two current RORC members.

Proposers and seconders must send a letter of recommendation either directly to the Membership Secretary or along with the applicant's application pack.

2. Be sponsored by a RORC Committee member

A Committee member is usually available at every RORC race or Club event. Introductions may be requested or meetings with the RORC Chief Executive can be facilitated in the RORC London or Cowes Clubhouse if necessary. Overseas candidates can provide a letter of recommendation from the Commodore of their local yacht club in place of the Main Committee sponsorship.

3. Complete the Application Form

4. Complete a Certificate of Competency

Must be signed by the skipper of a boat on which the candidate has completed a qualifying race. If you are the owner, or applying as a RORC Corinthian Member, this need not be signed.

5. Complete a Direct Debit Form

Applicants with a UK bank account can set up their subscription payments via direct debit. An original signed copy must be sent in the post to the address below.

6. Send your application

Current Subscription Rates

The RORC offers competitive rates for UK and Overseas member and the Club is committed to supporting youth members, offering staggered special rates based on age (from Under 18, Under 25 through to29). All rates are applicable to both Ocean Racing and Corinthian Members.

Joining Fee

All new and reinstated members pay a joining fee of half their annual subscription upon election, with the exception of Under 25 members, Cadet members and Ordinary members under 30.

Royal Ocean Racing Club - since 1925

The RORC was founded in 1925 to encourage long distance yacht racing and the design, building and navigation of sailing vessels in which speed and seaworthiness are combined. Today the club encourages ocean, long distance and other forms of yacht racing and yachting activity.
